The OTIS Foundation, in partnership with Paul Gray Builders and the Bendigo community, established a new retreat named ‘Kez’s Hideaway’ in memory of Paul’s wife Kerri Gray, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2011.
‘Kez’s Hideaway’ has been built on two acres within a 20-acre property in Redesdale, kindly donated by Andrew and Lisa Campbell. This rural setting which includes beautiful views to the east and south, and features the state forest wrapping around from the west provides a perfect environment for our guests to relax, rejuvenate and reflect.
Paul said “family was everything to Kez and spending time with her family gave her the most joy. If she could look down and see families together she would smile”. In honour of this, ‘Kez’s Hideaway’ is a place where women, men and their families living with breast cancer can come together and have quality time away, in a tranquil and relaxing environment. Paul stated that for him “to be able to build this home and have it named after Kerri is both rewarding and a ‘labour of love”, with the building process helping his family to move forward.
‘Kez’s Hideaway’ has been designed in line with Kerri’s feelings on the importance of family and home. The house is a luxurious, modern family home with clean lines and include materials that blend into the landscape. The main design elements include a 6+ energy rating with solar energy, native gardens and a family friendly layout with 4 generous bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. There is an open plan format for the kitchen, living and dining areas, a retreat space and outdoor living areas with several access points to the open plan area. Kez’s favourite colour was scorpion red, which has been reflected within the furnishings of the house.
